Rod Baber, a mountain climber from Britain, recently set a new Guinness record after making the world’s highest phone call from the top of Everest. He managed the special call twice while on top, he first called to a special voice mail account and then once again to his family. His cell phone was an ordinary Motorola, the MOTORIZR Z8. The temperature was so incredibly cold that the phone’s batteries had to be strapped to Rod’s body to allow them to operate properly.

The special calls were made from 8,848 meters, or 29,035 feet at -30 degrees Centigrade.Rod Baber even thanked Motorola for the achievement, which he text-messaged to them:

“One small text for man, one giant leap for mobilekind – thanks Motorola.”
