Imagine being able to dive 115 ft (aprox. 35m) deep, or to be able to swim 1000 yards (1013m) only to discover that you have made a single length. This things is HUGE! The massive pool covers eight hectares of ground and is situated in San Alfonso del Mar resort on the Southern coast of Chile.
This huge mass of completely see-through water can play host to small boats, and runs purely on fresh seawater supplied by the biggest source of water known to man: the ocean. It cost over £1billion and five long years to build, and costs about £2million to keep it maintained. The owner of the company who designed the pool, Fernando Fischmann, explains that to keep the water fresh, water is pumped from the ocean in one end, and back into the ocean at the other.
It causes no harm to the ocean whatosever and is heated by the sun to a comfortable 26 degrees C, and was confirmed by Guinness Book of Records on the 22nd of January 2008.
The size is just astounding!:

What would be the point of a pool this size might I ask? And if it’s on the coast then why … can’t they just use the ocean to swim?

Honestly, Bridget makes a great point: There isn’t really a point for a pool of this large size, other than:
A) It’s safer
B)It’s warmer
C)It’s a tourist Attraction
D) It looks cool.
