This is an interesting little thing I picked up over the weekend from my dad.
Sometimes you may have noticed that your remote doesn’t seem to work as well as it should. If you hold down the volume button, or try to turn on the TV, it only works “sometimes”. This trick to fixing this is rather simple and easy to do:
- Open the battery cap/lid at the back of the remote.
- Give the batteries a roll.
- Try out a rejuvenated remote!
This tip usually works if you live in a coastal region, where the extra moisture builds up and mixes with dust, making a residue that prevents the battery from making a proper connection with the remote’s contacts.
If this doesn’t work, there’s only more solution:
Buy new batteries!

Wow, I didn’t expect it to work at all, but it worked for me. Maybe it’s just my Harmony remote…

I’ve used this trick since I was a teenager - it probably was instrumental in getting me that crap job at RadioShack.
Thanks for running my ad; it’s much appreciated.

No worries Les
I live nearly right on the coast, so this tip should prove useful in the future
