His name is Jari Bär, and he’s a Finnish millionaire that became the victim of one of Finland’s traffic laws: The amount you are fined for is directly proportional to how much you earn!
Jari Bär was doing 82 km/h in a 60km /h zone in Finland in January 2009.
That extra 2km/h made the biggest difference. According to some, like Savon Sanomat,
if the speed had been 80 km/h the fine would have been only 115 Euros
Talk about being unfortunate!

Now this is called “RULE OF LAW”. Some backward country tycoons simply get away by shoving money on the security forces.

I agree, real millionaires should not be bothered at all with that kind of fine. Just pay up.

I rad this story in a car magazine a few months ago…..I like the idea that you pay according to your yearly salary…but that really sucks in this guy’s case!

After a wonderful time at The World Cup got a letter through from the German police saying I have a speeding fine. I admitted the offence, but now I am unsure as to whether it is a scam, and now to pay the fine as it is in Euros. There is a payment slip with the letter, but its all in German. The fine is for €99 after exceeding the limit by 31km/h Any ideas?

I am interested in law school once I finish college, but I want to practice some kind of law where I would get to use languages. I am working on my French fluency and am also studying Chinese. What is the best field? I am not particularly interested in Public International Law,

Are you serious that you will be charge depending on how much you earn by violating traffic law. Jari Bar traffic violation charges wont be a problem because he is a millionaire, rich people now need to be a little careful on the road. Don’t be a violator no matter how much money you have.

Well, strike Finland as a place I’ll be moving to any time soon. What a ridiculous penalty for going 22km above the speed limit. It’s just a racket to make money.

That’s a lot of money. He could have donated it to poor students in Philippines who couldn’t afford to go to school.

As we can see different country has different laws and regulations. As being millionaire, I think he can carry that fined penalty so easy. Also I wonder how and where those fined money goes after of being collected.

In a way, that practice spells equality. Lets face it, if the penalty is standard, those who are earning less will feel the penalty more compared to those who have the luxury and the money. Whereas, if penalty will depend on how much the person is earning, it will surely create the balance between those who have more and those who have less.

Proportional punishment is the only way to get a rich speeder to slow down. He is just as dangerous to other drivers as I am, he shouldn’t get to fly everywhere just because he doesn’t mind paying the tickets! Sweet car though!

Hahaha, that sucks so much. It seems weird that the cut-off point for 2kph would be hundreds of thousands of dollars though. I guess they must have the same 20-over laws we have here in the States, except in kph instead of mph.
