What? Did you read the title correctly?
I’m afraid you did:
I absolutely love people like Richie Sowa, the creator of this personal island. He built his paradise in 1998, which was destroyed later by a hurricane. His island was a bamboo and pine structure that literally floated on 250,000 plastic bottles, which are attached as shown:
The enthusiastic builder and environmentalist wasn’t disheartened after the disaster, destroying his double-story house, beaches, and solar oven amongst many other things. Spiral Island is set for reconstruction, and will also float on countless plastic bottles. Vegetation will be included, like it’s predecessor, and the entire island will be moved with a motor.
It shouldn’t actually be called an island, but rather “Spiral Ship” as the entire “structure” is classified as a boat rather than an island, which allows Richie to travel.
This definitely adds to the saying, “If you want something done, you have to do it yourself”. Slightly modified of course, ” If you can’t afford a private island, build one!”
