There’s a rather heart-warming tale circulating on Reddit at the moment about a guy who tracked down an engaged couple after his boss’ wife took a photograph of the man proposing. It’s really an epic tale and only hints at the power of a little intuition. I’ll leave the rest to the original author to explain.

“My boss went to run in the 2005 New York marathon. His wife was standing in the crowd near the finish line to take pictures.

This young couple approached and just after crossing the finish line, he knelt and proposed – ring and all. My boss’ wife snapped a pic.

Since they were obviously (likely) from out of the country, I knew it wasn’t likely that they had anyone there to take a picture for them, and that they would probably want this one.

So…”

His name is Jari Bär, and he’s a Finnish millionaire that became the victim of one of Finland’s traffic laws: The amount you are fined for is directly proportional to how much you earn!

Jari Bär was doing 82 km/h in a 60km /h zone in Finland in January 2009.

That extra 2km/h made the biggest difference. According to some, like Savon Sanomat,

if the speed had been 80 km/h the fine would have been only 115 Euros

Talk about being unfortunate!

The results are very, very interesting with the brightest students favouring Beethoven, whilst Lil ‘Wayne seemed to be enjoyed by the *less* bright students.

A couple notable things to point out regarding the study though, as noticed by Beatcrave:

• No style of music is dominant in the intelligence zones (which begs the question whether there is any link at all)
• SAT tests are considered inaccurate when determining intelligence

Just be wary… if you’ve had a long day you might not want to bend over or reach high to get a slightly better deal, this trick exploits laziness.

8. I’m not just selling groceries, I’m selling real estate. Look high and low-literally-for good values from smaller manufacturers who can’t afford to stock their products in the eye-level sweet spot.

That’s not a typo!

Henry Farrell (46) has been arrested for the 190th time in Florida recently. He’s obviously been arrested for many things, including grand theft and the possession of illegal substances. According to the cops, he’s been around for ages:

“He’s somebody we have been dealing with for years”

No wonder, considering his first arrest was at the young age of 20.

Now this is interesting.

It’s no unknown fact that weight loss is an incredibly popular topic these days, especially considering the obesity rate in not just North America, but Europe and even my home country, South Africa. We are constantly bombarded with weight loss adverts, health tips and “healthy” TV cooking shows that apparently teach us the correct way to eat.

Despite a large portion of weight loss media focusing on women losing weight and regaining a beautiful figure, it is a little known fact that for some reason men just seem to lose weight quicker / more easily than women. And no one had any idea why, that is, until now

What is interesting to me is that it’s got nothing to do with dieting techniques or food preference, but rather with the man’s BRAIN.

It turns out the while being faced with food men were more successful than women in ignoring – albeit only temporarily (we are only human after all) – the urge to eat the food in front of them.

The clever experimet includes some funky chemicals that allow scientists to track brain activity, and a group of 23 volunteers who were neither obese, nor in bad health. They were asked to rate food on a scale of 1-10 and were exposed to the dishes they craved, among various mouth-watering tasks. Here’s the “just” of the story (from The Consumerist):

Matt ordered this copy of “Tales of Beedle The Bard” for his 13-year-old nephew. He paid an extra $4 to have it gift wrapped. Amazon actually gift wrapped it, then put the gift wrapped book inside a box that said what it was.

Is common sense lacking in a time when it really isn’t needed? This seems to prove exactly that.

Laugh, cry and ridicule Amazon. Either way, pretty unacceptable!

Yeah, just read the title again slowly.

It really happened, and Aaron Fotheringham has a Guinness World Record to prove it. The 16-year-old, who suffers from spina bifida, managed to succeed in this incredible feat by rolling down a skating ramp, flipping, and landing safely on flat ground, wearing only a helmet (he’s braver than me!).

It wasn’t all red, white and yellow roses however. Aaron Fotheringham was attempting the most consecutive back flips in 45 seconds, and despite his unofficial record of 6, he wasn’t able to replicate his previous record (he only managed a single flip), but still ended up setting a new record.

After the record, Aaron Fotheringham took part in the Vegas AmJam finals in the advanced BMX category… in his wheelchair.

Women mainly spend time washing their hair.

That’s a lot of days! 136 and a half days to be exact! That’s a third of a year!

It was already popular belief that women take an extremely long time to get ready, and this notion was popularized by Hollywood thousands of times over, but the latest survey of over 1000 women put this in a whole new perspective.

What’s even more surprising is that nearly 2/3 of the women said that getting ready was, to them, a chore! And only 1/3 women claimed to actually enjoy the task. Non-surprisingly the most time-consuming task was washing and styling their hair.

Sounds like a waste of time compared to men, who only spent 1,092 hours getting ready, even though that’s still a fairly large number of hours.
