Blog Action Day: Making A Difference, The Buck Stops Here

Bloggers Unite - Blog Action Day

Today, October 15th, is the day that over 15,000 blogs take part in Blog Action Day, a day that takes place every year, to discuss a certain topic. This years topic is the Environment, and it’s exactly what I’m going to talk about.

Right, I’m not going to talk about Global Warming and going “Green” and all of that jazz. To be Green has become a fad, and unfortunately it is just a trend, which needs to become a movement. To be “hip” you have to do something Green. This isn’t the attitude that should be taken, and years can be spent debating over what is right and wrong. So I’m not going to :)

I live in Cape Town, South Africa. Botanists around the world will instantly smile, as they all know that we have an extremely diverse species of plant, the Fynbos, an absolutely massive Biome (get a dictionary). I was absolutely amazed after actually camping among the Fynbos, and spending 3 days among it. I’ve been to places like the US and Europe. They have nothing that touches this. Sadly, Fynbos isn’t growing any larger, as alien vegetation, alien animals and housing encroach on the Fynbos’ land. Fortunately, there are people that are doing something about it, unfortunately there aren’t enough people.

But I’m going to say something that might offend a lot of people. Nobody cares. Absolutely nobody cares. You probably don’t. Just think for a moment, do you really care? You’ve spent the last year talking about work, or this girl at the office, or business. Ah, business. People just care about business. Why not? Money makes the world go round. The world will still turn, it just won’t be living. And that is where I wish to make a change, because I CARE. People only care about today. That’s fine, one day at a time, but don’t blind yourself from the future. And Solar Power and all zero-emmision power is great and all, but it isn’t stopping our plants from dying, or our animals from dying.

Thanks to us, brainy humans, around 3 species of animal go extinct every hour.

Wow, scary fact. But you don’t really care do you? It’s just another thing you could say at a meeting.

I’m not going to tell you what to do, or who to become. But realize that you have been just passing on the buck. And you know what. I only have one thing to say:

THE BUCK STOPS HERE, THIS GENERATION
