Fortune has conducted their annual survey where they ask businessmen and businesswomen a series of questions. They are asked
to vote for the companies that they admired most, from any industry.
This prompted many different criteria, listed below:
- Innovation
- People management
- Use of corporate assets
- Social Responsibility
- Quality of Management
- Financial Soundness
- Long-term investment
- Quality of products/services
- Global competitiveness
The results are taken in and compiled to create the World’s Most Admired and Hated Companies 2009.
Results:
Predictably, Apple won first place.
A couple notable companies include
- Toyota in third
- Google in fourth
- Microsoft in tenth
- Walmart in eleventh
- McDonalds in sixteenth (big surprise for me)
- Bank of America in twenty-sixth (ironic)
Other popular companies such as Nike, Nokia BMW, IBM, Sony and Intel made the cut (with a surprisingly high number of the companies being computer / electronic / cellphone companies)
Check out the full top 50 here.

Hi. I came across your page while researching for anything I can about Toyota. I used to be a marketing professional for the car company and I’m really glad to know that Toyota is one of the most admired companies globally.
You got good stuff here and will prolly visit this more often.
